The Modern Hope Chest

I saw this beautiful photo shoot on Snippet & Ink, and couldn't help but share it. It's kind of a modern take on the old fashioned "Hope Chest."
Way back in the day a chest was given with a girl's hand in marriage, and was filled with her dowry to her future husband. When  dowries fell out of favor (Thank God!) the chest became known as a "Hope Chest" and was seen as a rite of passage for a girl of marrying age.  Handmade linens  household items, or even special clothing or keepsakes for the future were tucked away to be given to the bride in the time between engagement and marriage.
With the Handmade/DIY movement making such a huge come back, especially here in Portland, I think the Hope Chest could see a revival as well. The twist may be that the Hope Chest is filled with gifts of love from friends and family, and given to both partners, not just the bride. Call me old fashioned, but I think getting a chest full of hope from your loved ones to share with your partner for life is pretty amazing. That's just my two cents though.

Anyway enjoy the Photos by Kate Webber, Produced by Jess Flood.
